National Salvation Day in Azerbaijan
On 15 June, 1993, the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev returned to power in Azerbaijan.
Although it gained independence two years ago, the country still could not get rid of chaos. On 4 June, 1993, the disobedience of the military unit under the control of Colonel Surat Huseynov in Ganja was completely throwing the country into chaos.
The situation was getting out of control, the heads of the executive branches of the surrounding regions were being forcibly replaced, and Surat Huseynov's uprising was spreading from the vicinity of Ganja to Baku. There were dead and wounded. At such a time, in order to save the state from destruction, the country's leadership decided to invite Heydar Aliyev, the chairman of the Nakhchivan Supreme Assembly, to Baku.
After returning to Baku, Heydar Aliyev, who left for Ganja to negotiate with Surat Huseynov, gave a statement on the Ganja events at a session of the Milli Majlis. On 15 June, Heydar Aliyev was elected Chairman of the National Assembly (Milli Majlis).
Thus, the long-standing tension and conflict subsided, and the country was saved from the threat of civil war and disintegration. If gaining independence was a prerequisite, the second important issue was to preserve and develop sovereignty, and this became a reality thanks to the will of the National Leader. He created the concept of national Azerbaijani statehood.
Despite all the obstacles, socio-political stability was restored in the country in the shortest possible time.
On 20 June, 1993, Heydar Aliyev held a briefing for local and foreign journalists to convey the realities of Azerbaijan to the world community, and on 21 June, he met with diplomats from a number of countries.
The policy pursued in this area brought the republic out of the information blockade. The opinion formed about Azerbaijan in the world changed in a positive direction. It was in such complex political conditions that Heydar Aliyev's great potential became the guarantor of Azerbaijan's independence. The personality of the National Leader, his unique political management skills, determination and charisma put an end to the political crisis and Azerbaijan's integration into the world community began.
In 1997, the deputies of the National Assembly (Milli Majlis) proposed to include June 15 in the calendar as the National Salvation Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the parliament approved this proposal. Since then, the return of Heydar Aliyev to power has been celebrated as National Salvation Day.
